Last week, the Indians competed in the Big North Outdoor Track Divisional Championships at Hackensack High School.

AJ Hall finished in first place for the 800m, Nurlan Herburger came in second place for the 1600m, and Jeff Roberts wound up in third for the 1600m, so needless to say, the boys team did exceptionally well.

Paul Yoo placed third for the boys 400m hurdles, Ben Mandel placed fourth for the 400m hurdles, and Juan Escalante placed fifth for the boys javelin.

The boys relay 4x400m team, including Nurlan Herburger, AJ Hall, Evan Jones, and Jeff Roberts, placed third.

Chelsea Lee, who got first place in the 1600m, and Hana Shapiro, who got first place in the high jump, led the girls team during this meet as well.

Ashley Evans finished fifth in the girls 1600m, Katie Muccio finished fourth in the girls 400m hurdles, Melissa Purcell came in fourth for pole vault, and Rita Kochakian placed fifth for the high jump.

Overall, the Indians placed fifth for both teams.

According to Coach Murtaugh, “Chelsea Lee and AJ Hall also set meet records in their events. Each of these athletes mentioned are looking to move onto the State Meet of Champions, which takes place in mid-June.”
