Running for the repeat
Both cross country teams look to run better times this week
The cross country season is officially underway as the season began with a meet at Garret Mountain on September 8 and a meet at Darlington on September 12.
The boys defeated Bergenfield and Teaneck with great performances from Jeff Roberts (Jr.) who finished 1st in the race with a time of 19:27, John Coyle (Jr.) who finished second overall behind Roberts with a time of 19:48, and The Smoke Signal’s own Evan Jones (Sr.) who finished third overall in the race with a final time of 20:09 .
The girls team also beat Bergenfield and Teaneck. Ashley Evans came in first for the girls race with a time of 22:11, Nikki Criscuolo followed with a time of 22:27, and Marlo Guastella came in third with a final time of 24:17.
At Darlington, the PV boys team did not do as well as expected as they finished 7 out of 9 teams. The boys team will be looking to improve this score as they have another meet on .
The girls team did a bit better at Darlington finishing 5th out 11 teams, but still not in the top three, where the Indians want to be.
The Darlington meet did not count towards either team’s record, keeping both teams at 2-0.
However, on a good note, the boys freshman team won at Darlington and the girls freshman team finished in second place.
Injury Note: Boys team captain Zak Terzini did not run the meet at Darlington because of a bruised and swollen foot. However, Terzini may be running today, as the Indians have another meet at Darlington. He was surely missed in the previous meet, and if he runs tomorrow he has the potential to make the team even better.
This Week: Both teams are only are only running in one meet today against Tenafly at Darlington at 4 p.m.
Robert Saul graduated in 2019.
