Season recap: Two towns, one family at PV football

Senior Captains Joe Williams (44), and Colin Dedrick (12)

The Pascack Valley football season ended November 20 in the North 1 Group 3 semifinals in a loss to Ramapo, 45-13.

“It was a fun season. I love playing with the guys,” said senior LB/TE Joe Williams. “We accomplished many things, we grew together, and had a successful season.”

“It didn’t end the way we wanted it to,” said senior quarterback Colin Dedrick. “But it was an enjoyable senior season.”

The Indians had dreams of winning their 3rd state championship in as many years. It would have been the first time in school history that the football team would have won three titles in a row.

Unfortunately, the Indians did not accomplish that; they did make history though, even without winning their third title. The group of seniors was part of teams won that won two straight state championships and went to three straight state title games.

“It was a great four years, and a great run,” Dedrick said

Along with impressive playoff runs, in the last four years the Indians went 39-8, one of the most winning classes in school history.

“I wouldn’t want to go to any other school. Nielsen is the greatest coach, we are all a family,” Williams said.

The Indians finished 8-3 this season, with losses to Ramapo (twice) and Old Tappan. Both teams are in the state finals in their respective groups. Along with big wins against Hackensack, Montclair, and Wayne Hills. Wayne Hills will face off against Old Tappan with the North 1, Group 4 state championship on the line this weekend.

“The Hackensack and Montclair games in the beginning of the season,” Williams said of the best moment of his four years. “Because people doubted us, we beat them. We showed we wouldn’t go down without a fight.”

Dedrick looked to his first season as the Indians quarterback as a sophomore for his favorite moment as an Indian.

“Sophomore year against Wayne Hills, it was my coming out party,” Dedrick said.

Dedrick went 13-for-19 with 229 yards and a touchdown in a 35-7 victory over Wayne Hills.

What will they remember the most about Pascack Valley football?

“The family atmosphere,” Dedrick said.

“The family aspect. Playing with the guys I’ve played with my whole life. It’s a bond that’s going to live on forever,” Williams added.

“Being tough and being a family. Two Towns, One Family.”
