Select students play for PV Theatre Orchestra

Anything Goes is the typical story of boy-meets-girl, but with a twist: this time, the boy meets the girl on a cruise ship setting sail for London during the 1930s. Pascack Valley Theatre’s cast, crew, and orchestra are performing Anything Goes on March 19th, 20th, and 21st, and tickets for students are only $5.

The orchestra for the show is not only made up of professional musicians, but it even includes some PV students. The students participating are Elizabeth Liu (senior), Julian Stiles (freshman), Sabrina Csatay (senior), Matthew Killian (freshman), Gregory Tomanelli (sophomore), Josiah Stankus (freshman), Anna Faytelson (senior), and Chandni Shah (freshman).

“Most of the time, people don’t get to play this kind of music until they are in college or on Broadway. Being able to play this music in high school is a great experience,” Julian Stiles said.

The students of the Pit Orchestra have been preparing for the play since January. They practiced for an hour and a half two times per week leading up to the show.

Mr. Michael Mahadeen conducts the Pit Orchestra and is the musical director for the show, and there are also several other professional musicians who are hired to play in the orchestra as well.

“It’s a lot of fun to play the songs and although it can sometimes be tough, it’s a great experience,” said Chandni Shah.

The entire production team appreciates the time spent by the Pit Orchestra and is proud of the work that they have been doing in preparation for Anything Goes.
