Senior Feature: Brandon Alvarado
This is Senior Feature, where we interview seniors and learn about the splash they’re going to make in the real world, while they are still big fish in our little pond.
We have very talented seniors here at PV, so let’s find out more about one of them. Brandon will be attending New York University in the fall and will be studying media, culture, and communication.
What are some of your hobbies?
I love writing, and I have written this book, imagine if I wrote a book and hate to write? I love making people laugh and having them be entertained. When I don’t have to do anything I love just hanging out with friends and writing comedy.
What is your motivation?
I think what keeps me going is that when I was a kid, for the longest time, I felt like I was different in a lot of ways, and I wasn’t proud of that. I just was not proud of being different for who I am. So I think that where my motivation comes from for things like a book or comedy is that I love taking and embracing the idea that I’m different because we are all different. I love who I am and I want to do what I want to do as I respect everyone to do what they want to do. Also, I feel that hard work does pay off and I feel, as I go into NYU, that I have worked hard to get here.
What makes you different, Brandon?
What makes me me is the fact that I try to keep things totally 100% real. In the beginning of high school I wanted to go to those parties because that’s what my perception of high school was, but I didn’t want anyone to know that I wanted to go. But the high school experience is what you make of it. That’s why I try to be real and honest all the time to everyone and anyone. I try not to put on a façade and I’m not trying to be a fake person.
What can we see from you in the future?
I am hoping to go into the media world and entertainment industry whether it is in comedy because I would love to continue with that, or in writing. Hopefully my first book is not my last. I want to continue writing whether I do that and something else or just that. If all goes well, everyone will still see me in that I will still be out trying to make things happen. This might sound cheesy but I still want to change people’s perceptions of those who might be different. In my own way, through my writing and through my comedy where I would make jokes about everyone equally, especially myself, I hope to change the way people see others around them.
