Senior Feature: Tyler Jones
This is Senior Feature, where we interview seniors and learn about the splash they’re going to make in the real world, while they are still big fish in our little pond.
We have very talented seniors here at PV, so let’s find out more about one of them. Tyler Jones will be attending Stevens Institute of Technology with two majors in mind: Music Technology or Mechanical Engineering focusing in Nanotechnology.
What are some of the extracurricular activities that you do?
I have done school choir since 8th grade and have joined other choirs since then. I have been in the Bro Squad, which is the PV all-male A cappella group, for all four years in high school, and the PV chamber choir for all three years (because freshmen cannot join). I have been in Marching Band in the drum-line for all four years as well, and this year I was captain of the drum-line. I have also been in the pit orchestra for the musicals.
What are some of your hobbies?
I really just like playing and writing music, composing things, I like listening to a lot of music. Also, I have a lot of Rubix Cubes and twisty puzzles that I like to solve; I have a collection of them.
What are some of the careers that you are thinking about going into?
My top career choice would be a Music Producer but if I go into engineering I would want to be an engineer.
What do you think of yourself?
I would like to say that I’m a generally optimistic person. I like myself. I used to have bad self-esteem, but high school has proved my self-esteem. I am really bad at taking compliments though.
What makes you different, Tyler?
Well there is not a lot of people in the school who transcribe and compose music. It has been done, but I feel like I have probably done it more than anyone else. I have arranged things for the aforementioned Bro Squad and now I am arranging a senior graduation song. I also wrote a song about drugs for a forensics final that was quite interesting and I hope I got a good grade.
What is your motivation?
There is a good quote in Mr. Lynch’s room and it says, “The minute you think of giving up, think about why you held on for so long.” I could be doing a small homework assignment and think to myself, “I have a good grade in this class, I could take half a grade.” But then I would be wasting my time if I stop then, so I just do it. So basically, I don’t like giving up anything that I have started.
What can we expect to see from you in the future?
I will keep writing music as much as I can for as long as I can. That’s the cool thing about music, even if I get old and withered, and my body starts to give out, I should still be able to play some instruments.
Abby Jones graduated in 2016.
