Senior Project Spotlight: PV student to self-publish poetry book
Senior year is the year of decisions, memories, and chances. PV seniors are given the opportunity to pursue an interest or talent of their choosing through the option of senior projects. The students who choose to pursue these projects are excused from one of their classes for the second half of the year to work on the project and get graded based on their efforts and end result. The process also includes a detailed research paper, weekly journal entries, and a mentor to help the students along the way. Take a closer look into these senior projects to learn about both the process these students go through and the projects themselves.
Writing a poem is hard for most people. Writing an entire book of poetry is a whole other story. Fortunately, Charlie Leppert has what it takes to tackle this challenge.
For their senior project, Charlie Leppert is writing a poetry book. They are taking a collection of poems they wrote throughout their school years here and self-publishing it.
As of now, they are raising funds to publish the book, and they hope to reach a fundraising goal of $825. They are also currently working on formatting the book.
“A big goal of mine was to really learn about the publication process because self-publishing didn’t really do that for me,” said Leppert.
They are expecting to be done with their project by the end of the school year and are planning to sell it after the school year is over.
“I’ve always really loved writing and I’ve always really wanted to publish some of my work, and I figured there was no other time in my life really that I would have time set aside in the day to do something I’m really excited about,” said Charlie.
The book will be called “Destinations”, and the main themes are travel, change, and transition.
Charlie is also planning on self-publishing more of their works in the future and thought this would be a good way to ease into that.
“I think a lot of people at all stages of their life experience a lot of transitions, especially at this time of year, so I’m hoping that people will be able to relate to that and connect to that change”, Charlie said.
Charlie has been working on this project throughout their years of high school. They started writing poetry in freshman year, and the book will be a compilation of all of their best poems from this time period.
They started working on putting together and formatting the book in January.
Charlie’s book will most likely be available for purchase sometime after the end of this school year, but until then, you can donate money to help publish Charlie’s book. Also, check out their blog and read more about their poetry on http://www.charlieleppertpoetry.com/blog/.
