Spring Sports Preview: boys golf
Head coach: Mr. Dom Mingione (20th Season)
Last year’s record: 14-8
Key returnees: Calvin Ralph (Jr.), Will Gallagher (Jr.), Rob Carcich (Jr.), Lee Angioletti (Sr.), Tyler Farrell (Jr.)
Key losses: Jack Gallagher, Kevin Sinisi, Pat Clancey
Strengths of team: Youth and enthusiasm
Areas that need improvement: Experience and playing time
Coach’s comment: “I would hope that we could have a .500 record this year. And I would hope that we could have a .600 record to make it into the State Tournament, that would be an achievement.”
Outlook: With many key players lost due to graduation, this year’s golf team looks to juniors Calvin Ralph and Will Gallagher to shoot low scores. Both with varsity experience under their belt, the junior duo will be the foundation of the team. The team faces an issue with its home course and main practice facility, Edgewood Country Club, currently closed while battling a financial dispute. This means that the team will be playing on courses that may not be as familiar to them as Edgewood. Don’t count them out though; the boys are looking to take a crack at the State Tournament this year.
Claudia Ralph graduated in 2016.
