Spring Sports Preview: Boys Tennis
Head coach: Mr. Scott Grapin (Third year).
Key returnees: Josh Kasper (Sr.), Roger Zlotlow (Sr.), Alex Robinson (Jr.)
Key losses: Eric Robinson, Brett Winters, Vinnie Carbonaro
Key newcomers: Austin Davis (So.), Josh Cohn (Jr.), Jordan Lauber (Jr.), Adam Aloi (Jr.)
Strengths of team: This year’s team possesses varsity experience with some senior leadership.
Areas that need improvement: Many players will have to switch from doubles to singles or vice versa this season due to the loss of key players from last season. This change may seem simple enough, but the style of play between playing alone or with a teammate is very different. This change of style may take some time to develop.
Outlook: Grapin is looking to match last season’s .500-ish record (he said he doesn’t recall what it was) and hopefully exceed it. Grapin predicts that his team will finish in the middle of the pack in its league. He stressed how competitive the league has become and how each year teams are able to reload and continue to get better and better. In order to match other teams, Grapin looks to his seniors to lead their team and step up during the important moments throughout the season.
Evan Jones graduated in 2016.

This is a squad that matches the 1992 American Olympic Basketball Team. The pure athleticism and talent that flows through our veins and perspires out of our pores can win a championship by itself. Our fearless leader, Josh Kasper, is the God of Tennis. A four-sport varsity athlete, Kasper has led this team through the ups and downs each season, and we are proud to call him our captain. This season, the tennis team will gain the respect and recognition that we deserve, and will bring a trophy back to valley. Jay Spector should play third doubles on the JV Team.
