Spring sports preview: Track and Field
Head coach: Al Cann (21st season)
Key returnees: Evan Jones (Sr.), Joe Figueroa (Sr.), Pat Song (Sr.), Max Putterman (Sr.), Joe Schnugg (Sr.), Jeff Roberts (Jr.) , Abby Lee (Sr.), Chelsea Lee (Sr.), Hana Shapiro (Sr.) and Ashley Evans (Jr.)
Key losses: Ben Mandel, Nurlan Herburger, AJ Hall
Key newcomers: Eli O’Connor (Sr.)
Strengths of the team: This year, the team is looking pretty good in the field events, training some good throwers and pole vaulters.
Areas that need improvement: Depth for the races and the need for more athletes.
Outlook: The Indians have a lot to live up to this season: last year, Chelsea Lee and AJ Hall set records, sending them to the State Meet of Champions. The Indians are hoping that this season, they can send more to that prestigious meet, that takes place in mid-June. Until then, hopefully the track and field events will shine.
Coach’s comment: “This year, everyone is enthusiastic. Both the athletes and the coaches are out there working hard, everyday, and because of that, we’re going to surprise many.”
