Students become celebrities in art showcase
Ms. Back’s photography class takes pictures of students for project
Have you seen the celebrities in the hallways?
Ms. Back’s photo students‘ art show is up in the hallway outside the photo room. This displays portraits and fake magazine covers. The art show went up on April 17th, and according to students, has been stopping people in their tracks since.
“I’ve always loved celebrity portraiture,” said Ms. Back, the photography teacher. “I loved looking for a person’s good side, their classic beauty.”
Ms. Back has been a teacher for seventeen years here at PV. “When I was younger, it was hard to get people to want to get a picture taken of themselves. But now everyone wants a picture, why not make it a good one?”
The project required that each student hand in five pictures from at least two different sessions of picture taking. The models had to wear clothing that was not native PV wear. The students got very creative with the wear, which is why you will not see two of the same outfit on that wall.
“It’s about making characters; there is a specific point in history that you’re capturing with your picture,” said Calvin Rezen, a senior in the photo class. Calvin was in quite a few of said pictures because he was there almost every day when they had the sessions. “I think we had fun with it, and I would absolutely do it again.”
Anyone who has a free moment can take a look at the pictures that are up; they are conveniently located on the walls near the media center.
These photos will soon be taken down, however, as the end-of-year art show is going to be featured in place of these photos in the near future.Julia Padovan
