Tennis team returns two upperclassmen
Demarest, Oh to lead the way for PV
Coach: Ken DelSanto
Last year’s record: 6-15
Key Returners: Evan Demarest (Jr.), Sean Oh (Sr.), David Harnett (Jr.), Andrew Scialdone (So.)
Key Losses: Robert Callahan, Noah Schwartz, and Jeremy Lesserson
Key Newcomers: Connor Shirey (Fr.),
“Right now we are still trying to figure out who our top varsity guys will be,” DelSanto said.
Strength of team: “Out of all the guys we have, we have a pretty athletic group and are athletic enough to learn new things,” DelSanto said. “We have to figure out how to play doubles and get there properly position wise, but I think we’re athletic enough to take those steps.”
Weakness of team: The team is very young this year and will have to learn to adapt to new situations. They don’t have much experience with doubles this year so they have some kinks to work out.
Outlook: The only two upperclassmen returning to the starting lineup are Demarest and Oh. Demarest will spend his second consecutive season as first singles and his third consecutive year on Varsity. Oh split time between singes and doubles last season, but is firmly slotted in as second singles. Harnett is seeing time on Varsity, and Oh said that comparative to last year got “a lot better and more competitive.” Scialdone is another promising player who will fill in at doubles. The doubles positions are up in the air, as a mix of inexperienced players will have to compete for the starting spots.
Coach’s Comment: ”We lost a couple guys from last year and we have some shoes to fill. We are looking to get some freshman and sophomores into the mix,” DelSanto said.
