Head Coach: Anthony Judilla
Last year: 2nd in State Sectional Behind Demarest
Key returners: Cooper Breslaw (Jr.), Johanna Chang (Jr.), Marcus Koshy (Jr.), Colin Krause (Sr.), Alia Moreira (Sr.), Allie Polyniak (Jr.), Adam Shaw (Jr.), Kyle Syslo (Sr.)
Key losses: Ella Ackerman, Mia Hachudorian, Patrick Kurtz, Joey Von Tobel, Sky Wescott
Strength of the team: “On the boys’ side, it’s a lot of returning talent that has been to the State Meet of Champs or the State Group Championships,” Judilla said. “Once you’ve been there before, you’re not nervous and yippy about a first-time playoff berth or anything like that, so they have that positive experience. On the girls’ side right now, it’s youth. We have a lot of talented underclassmen that are gonna help our very talented junior class, and it’s exciting to see where it can take them.”
Weakness of the team: “Encouraging kids to do the hard event” is something that Judilla has the team working through. “A lot of these things are painful psychologically and physically, and convincing kids to do those things for the sake of the team is always a challenge,” Judilla said.
Outlook on the season: “As good as we are, Bergen County is so incredibly competitive that if you don’t do your absolute best, you could have a losing season,” Judilla said. But, common with past thinking, Judilla believes that this year’s team is better than his team last year.
Coach’s comment: “As a team, it’s going to be very challenging to have team-wide success in terms of winning county, league, sections, or anything like that,” Judilla said. “The beauty of track is that we do have individuals, and those individuals are going to make waves, and it’s going to be awesome to see them compete at the end of the season.”
