The Indians advance in state tournament with 80-71 victory over Dwight Morrow

Pascack Valley’s star point guard Legend Dominguez once again came in when the Indians needed him the most, scoring 27 points, 11 of those being free throws.

The Indians took on a very talented team in Dwight Morrow on Monday night and came up with the win by a final score of 80-71, in the first round of the North 1, Group 3 state sectional tournament.

Valley’s offense was the stronger part of their game last night, once again scoring over 80 points for the second straight game as they beat Dickinson in overtime last Friday with a score of 92-91.

Another noticeable performance, although fans have really come to expect this, was from PV’s shooting guard  Matt Vasel. Vasel hit four three-pointers, en route to a 23-point performance, all four were huge momentum boosters for the Indians.

Another facet of the Indian’s offense that played a major role in their success was their free throw shooting. Dominguez hit 11 free throws, Vasel made 9 free throws, and senior swingman Eric Ziccarelli hit 6 free throws. A majority of their free throws taken were late in the fourth quarter, and really sealed the deal for the Indians.

Valley will move on to the quarterfinals for the state tournament, and will be facing Ramapo, the number one seed in the section, at Ramapo on Wednesday night, hoping to repeat another performance like this one.
