The Intramural Club hosted its first-ever pickleball tournament on Monday, Nov. 7.
Physical Education and Intramural Club Advisor Ronald Villone said the club’s goal is to “get students active in a lot of different ways.”
Villone decided to start the club for students interested in trying a variety of sports. The Pascack Valley Board of Education accepted it for the 2023-24 school year.
The club’s first event was a 3v3 basketball tournament on Oct. 9, and the most recent event was the pickleball tournament. In order to host this event a lot of planning was necessary. According to Villone, sophomores Eli Tenzer and Liam Higgins, the respective president and vice president of the new club, “have helped me out a lot [with the planning of the tournaments].”
There were about 30 total students in the co-ed tournament. Tenzer considered the pickleball tournament turnout to be quite good, but he hopes to see even more students participate in the future.
Seniors Ethan Perlman and Daniel Lin were the winners of the pickleball tournament.
“There was stiff competition and good players…it was awesome,” Perlman said.
After the pickleball tournament, Villone said that many students requested that the club host another pickleball tournament in the future. Additionally, the club hopes to host more tournaments with various other sports.
Perlman added that he is excited to participate in future Intramural Club tournaments.
The next club event that the club plans on hosting is a “Spikeball” tournament in November.
