The Latin Grammy Awards’ 25th anniversary performances
On Nov. 14, 2024, the 25th Anniversary of the Annual Latin Grammy Awards was held in Miami, Florida.
The Latin Grammy Awards has come a long way since their first ceremony. The first-ever Latin Grammy Awards ceremony was held on Sep. 13, 2000. Some of the first-ever hosts included Gloria Estefan, Antonio Banderas, and Jennifer Lopez.
Although millions of people now watch the Latin Grammys, it wasn’t always as welcomed. The biggest controversy the organization faced was when they decided to do the ceremony in English. Artists and viewers didn’t want to watch/perform because they felt it was disrespectful to their heritage and language.
Another controversial moment was when the organization held the ceremony in Seville, Spain. Some were upset that the ceremony was held in the country (Spain) that colonized a lot of Latin America.
However, this year’s Latin Grammys ceremony ran smoothly to viewer’s eyes.
Notable Performances
Luis Fonsi performed three of his songs after winning his sixth Latin Grammy. He sang “No Me Doy Por Vencido,” “Santa Marta,” and one of his most popular songs, “Despacito.”
Joe Jonas sang “Cómo Pasó?” with a new artist, Ela Taubert. Joe Jonas sang in English and Ela Taubert sang in Spanish. Taubert has been on the rise and is gaining popularity after getting recognition at the ceremony.
Becky G, Ángela Aguilar, Leonardo Aguilar, and Edgar Barrera sang “Por El Contraro” alongside a mariachi band. Some fans noticed the tension between Ángela Aguilar and Becky G due to previous personal disputes, but they were seen hugging each other after the performance.
Pitbull and Bon Jovi performed a remix of Bon Jovi’s song “It’s My Life”.
The Latin Grammy Awards have come a long way since the first-ever performance in 2000, and all of the past controversies. All in all, this year’s ceremony seemingly was a success.
