With May being Mental Health Awareness Month, eight students told their stories of their struggles with mental health. Following these articles, PV junior Rachel Cohen and senior Kayla Barry talk about mental health resources, including hotlines and the Wellness Center.

This Is My Story: Mental Health Resources

Following these personal recounts of students’ struggles with their mental health, it is important to reach out for help if you or someone you know is struggling. Please contact the hotlines below if you or someone is in need of support.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255

This lifeline provides 24/7 free and confidential support for those in need.

Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741

This line gives free, 24/7 support for those in crisis, connecting them to trained counselors.

IMAlive: Online Crisis Chat

IMAlive is an online chat that connects those in crisis to trained volunteers who provide help and hope.

Treeline: 310-855-4673 or text TEEN to 839863

This line is specifically for teenagers who can call or text other teens that understand what they are going through.

The Wellness Center

The Wellness Center, with Student Assistance Counselor Christie Rossig and Student and Family Resource Liaison Steven Myers, is open to all Pascack Valley students, families, and faculty members. The center is accessible from the lower cafeteria and the front of PV.

The Wellness Center’s objective is to “establish a Stigma Free Zone and create a climate that promotes the access of mental health and substance abuse services,” according to the PV website.

The center provides counseling, resources and referrals, Intervention and Referral Services, substance abuse prevention, and mindfulness education to improve an individual’s mental health.
