Thursday Morning Quarterback: PV offense catches fire
After a close win at Wayne Hills, Pascack Valley was back to their usual high scoring ways against Bergenfield, winning 49-7 last Friday . The offensive line was once again a key to the Indians victory as many players pointed out after the game.
“We wouldn’t have won the game without Jake Padva, Max Putterman, Jimmy Alburtus, Joe Schnugg, and Joe Figueroa,” said quarterback Colin Dedrick.
The offensive line was instrumental in making big pass play for Dedrick, including two touchdown passes to Mike Pimpinella. On the day, Pimpinella finished with the two touchdown grabs and 48 yards receiving.
Jorge Cortes dominated the Bergenfield run defense, running for four touchdowns. All four of Cortes touchdown scores effectively put the game away in the first half.
In the second half, the Indians’ second team came out to show what they could. Quarterback Legend Dominguez hit Nathan Porter on a 39-yard pass, which led to a Matt Urrea touchdown run. The strong lineup of the second team shows that the Indians have a lot of depth and can go to them when needed for the rest of the season.
The Valley schedule is a rugged one. It includes just three teams currently with a sub-.500 record, including Wayne Hills (2-3), a proud program and a team that Valley beat in a very close game. This week’s game against Old Tappan (4-1) could very well decide who gets the number one seed in the North 1, Group 4 playoffs.
Speaking of playoffs (PLAYOFFS? YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT PLAYOFFS?!!!) Pascack Valley currently ranks as the No. 2 seed in the North 1, Group 4 power points ranking. Roxbury ranks as the top seed, rounding out the top four is Old Tappan and Paramus, respectively.
- Roxbury (5-0), 72 Power Points
- Pascack Valley (4-1), 66 Power Points
- Old Tappan (4-1), 64 Power Points
- Paramus (4-1), 56 Power Points
