Valley boys soccer pounds Indian Hills

Indians ready for County Tournament

On Monday night, the Indians proved yet again that they are a powerhouse in the Big North Patriot league, trouncing Indian Hills for a 5-0 victory on their home field. Dallas O’Connor led the way with two goals while Nick Londono, Oren Roznitsky, and Seth Weinstein all contributed goals of their own.

In goal, Alex Sullivan, AJ Puller, and Luke Fiorino split time. Sullivan, a senior, played the first half while Puller and Fiorino both played during the second half. Collectively, the goaltenders saved the only two shots on goal.

Thus far this season, the Indians have lost tough matches within their league to Old Tappan, Ramapo, Dwight Morrow, and Don Bosco. This victory was a way for them to get back on their feet and fully prepared for their next task.

“Technically we were solid,” coach Roy Nygren said. “We made good decisions with the ball. We handled business the way we wanted to tonight and are ready for our county tournament bid.”

The team currently sits at 5-4 and awaits seeding in the County Tournament, which will be played Thursday. It is very possible that Valley will draw a team that they have played recently, and specifically one from its league. Nygren says that the Indians have had a tough schedule, and that they’ve “competed with the best.”

Sullivan called the performance a “big boost”, and also went into depth about why the Indians have fallen short in the past. He knows what it takes to take revenge on their league rivals.

“We played Ramapo to a 2-1 game, OT 3-1,” Sullivan said. “We dominated both of those games in the first half and the second half kind of got away from us. I feel like now we are more prepared.”

He suggested that the aforementioned teams now know what kind of competition the Indians bring.

“We’re really clicking and I think we’re ready for any challenge. They don’t want to draw us in that County,” he said.
