No. 3 Pascack Valley Football fell to No. 6 West Morris in the Quarterfinal Round of the North 1, Group 3 Tournament behind a last-second 28-yard field goal from kicker Johnny Vieira (So.), which put West Morris on top, 19-17.
The first quarter was scoreless for both teams, but West Morris quickly got on the board in the second quarter with a 17-yard touchdown reception from RB Tyler Wu (Sr.).
A 30-yard field goal from Vieira extended his team’s lead to 10-0, but a late second-quarter 21-yard field goal from Valley kicker Evan Starr (Jr.) put Valley back within a touchdown as the teams entered halftime.
In the third quarter, a 56-yard touchdown reception from Valley’s WR Michael Fronzalgia (Jr.) tied the game at ten apiece, seemingly giving the Panthers the momentum. However, West Morris took back its lead in the fourth quarter on an eight-yard touchdown run from RB Garrett Crisp (Sr.).
Following the score, West Morris’ PAT attempt was blocked, almost proving costly for the Wolf Pack, as Valley soon after took its first lead of the night, 17-16, on a late three-yard touchdown carry from WR Ashton Kazinci (Jr.).
After Kazinci’s touchdown, Valley needed to hold West Morris on a drive that started deep in its own territory with less than a minute left in the contest, but West Morris QB Jacob Morris (Sr.) and his offense managed to drive all the way into field goal range to set up what turned out to be the game-winning kick as the clock hit all 0s.
Valley’s loss means that its 2023 season has concluded. The Panthers finished the season with an overall record of 6-3, an improvement from last year’s 4-6 season.
