The Pascack Valley Football Team will take on Bergenfield in a Week 5 matchup this Saturday, Sept. 27, at Bergenfield at 1 p.m.
Valley comes into this week off of a tough loss last week versus Northern Highlands at home, 39-13. Valley’s defense was unable to stop the Highlanders’ big-gain plays. On the other side of the ball, Valley was not able to generate much offense against the strong Highlands defense.
On the opening drive for Valley last week, Michael Colletti (Sr.) hit Dante DaCosta (Sr.) for a 68-yard completion, which led to a quick score for Colin McMorrow (Sr.). Christian Steiger (So.) led Pascack Valley in total yardage with 95 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Bergenfield was handed a loss last week in the team’s game against Dumont, with a final score of 21-6. Bergenfield’s quarterback finished that game throwing for just 12 passing yards. The Bears relied heavily on its run game, which Valley must stop this week in order to get a victory.
For Saturday’s matchup against Bergenfield, multiple injuries leave Valley without numerous starters on offense and defense.
Pascack Valley has defeated Bergenfield four times in the last five seasons. Last season, the Panthers had a blowout victory over the Bears, 48-14.
Despite the numerous injuries, Valley looks for a bounce-back victory against Bergenfield tomorrow. The game is crucial for Valley, currently sitting at 2-2, as it can have serious playoff implications for the Panthers.
