Valley Sports Week in Review 10/18-10/24
Monday 10/18:
Volleyball at Northern Valley – Demarest | Valley 0 – Demarest 2:
The girls lost the first set 15-25 and the second set 13-25 to a nationally ranked and undefeated Demarest team. Sabrina Arcilla had 11 digs and 2 assists on the game. With this loss, Valley fell to 11-6 on the season.
Tuesday 10/19:
Boys Soccer at Northern Valley – Old Tappan | Valley 1 – Old Tappan 2:
The team lost a tough one to Old Tappan, who is one of Valley’s biggest rivals. Michael Caminneci scored the only goal for Valley in the first half of the game. Valley had trouble getting shots off as they only tallied 4 shots on goal compared to Old Tappan’s 11.
Girls Soccer vs Northern Valley – Old Tappan | Valley 0 – Old Tappan 0:
The girls tied on their fan night in a defensive battle. Both goalies made some terrific saves to keep their team in the game.
With this tie, the girls moved to 8-3-2 on the season.
Wednesday 10/20:
Volleyball at Cresskill | Valley 2 – Cresskill 0:
The volleyball team snapped their 2-game losing streak with a big win over Cresskill. The girls won their first set 25-16 and won their second set 26-24. Taylor Grady had 9 assists, 4 kills, and 4 digs. Her teammate, Kaleigh Higgins, had 18 assists along with 4 aces and 2 digs. Sabrina Arcilla had 12 digs and 2 kills.
Thursday 10/21:
Boys Soccer at Northern Valley – Demarest | Valley 2 – Demarest 0
Boys soccer rebounded from a tough loss on Tuesday night to beat Demarest on their field. The goals came from Max Van Gyzen and Connor Moon, respectively. Both goals were assisted by Preston So. With the win, the boys moved to 9-3-3 on the season.
Girls Soccer vs Northern Valley – Demarest | Valley 1 – Demarest 1
For the second time in one week, the girls soccer team tied, this time against Demarest. This result moved Valley to 8-3-3 on the season.
Friday 10/22:
Football at Paramus | Valley 42 – Paramus 6
Valley dominated Paramus on both sides of the ball. Nick Messina had another monster performance finishing with 3 touchdowns along with 176 rushing yards, and an interception on defense. Quarterback, Ethan Silcher, finished the game 10/18 with 136 passing yards and a passing touchdown. Nick Savariego tallied 60 total yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. Dan Kastanis recovered a loose ball that was deflected by Paramus during a Valley kickoff. Paramus scored their only points during the second quarter off of a run from Justis Diaz Rinaldi. From there, Valley went on a 28-0 scoring run. Dylan Hutchinson continued to be Silcher’s top target bringing in 5 receptions for 79 yards. With this win, Valley stretches their winning streak to 3 and moves to 6-2 on the season. They will take on Ramsey for their regular-season finale.
Volleyball at River Dell | Valley 1 – River Dell 2
The girls lost to River Dell in the quarterfinal round of the Bergen County tournament. The team got off to a strong start, winning their first set 25-22. They went on to lose the second set 11-25, and the third set 19-25, giving River Dell the win. Noelle Solimano completed the game with 10 kills, 10 digs, and 4 aces. Taylor Grady had 8 assists with 4 kills and 2 digs. With this loss, the girls drop to 12-7 on the season. They will have time to prepare for the first round of the state tournament on Thursday against West Milford.
Saturday 10/23
Boys Soccer vs Wayne Hills | Valley 3 – Wayne Hills 0
Valley shutout Wayne Hills to advance to 10-3-3 on the season. All 3 of Valley’s goals came in the second half. The goals came from Connor Moon, Preston So, and Michael Caminneci, respectively. Goalie, Luke Stephen, had 5 saves on the game. The team will look to stay hot on Tuesday against Bergenfield.
Girls Soccer vs Emerson Boro | Valley 3 – Emerson Boro 4
The girls soccer team lost in a high-scoring affair against Emerson Boro. After getting into a 0-2 hole, Amanda Polyniak scored a goal to cut the deficit in half.
Soon after, Julia Conjour scored a goal to make the score even at 2 apiece.
Just a minute after Conjour’s goal, Polyniak scored her 2nd goal of the game to give Valley a 3-2 lead.
Valley was able to preserve this lead going into halftime but was not able to make anything happen offensively in the second half. Emerson scored 2 goals within the last 2 minutes and walked out with the win. Valley will look to bounce back on Tuesday night against Bergenfield.
