The Pascack Valley Football team improved its record to 2-0 after defeating Westwood on Saturday night, Sept. 7, by a score of 21-7.
Valley RB Kevin Regula (Sr.) and QB Adam Shaw (Jr.) led the way for Valley, each rushing for 97 yards. Shaw also had two rushing touchdowns.
In the first quarter, both defenses held strong until Shaw scrambled out of the pocket and found RB Kai Smith (Jr.) for a four-yard touchdown pass. Going into the second quarter, Valley still held a 7-0 lead.
In the second quarter, the game continued to be a defensive battle, as there was no scoring. The score remained 7-0 Valley heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, Shaw extended the Panthers’ lead to 14-0 with a 63-yard rushing touchdown. The score stayed 14-0 until the end of the third quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, Westwood was able to capitalize on a Pascack Valley fumble, as Cardinals’ QB Sean Morrison (Sr.) found WR Michael Rinaldi (Sr.) in the endzone for a 33-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to seven. However, Valley cut Westwood’s comeback hopes short. With time running down, Shaw punched in his second touchdown of the game on an eight-yard run to solidify the win for Valley.
Valley’s defense forced Westwood QB Sean Morrison to throw two interceptions in the first and fourth quarter. It was Valley’s Smith brothers, defensive backs Marley Smith (Jr.) and Kai Smith (Jr.) who each grabbed an interception.
Valley will take on Teaneck away next week—on Saturday, September 14th—at 1:00 pm in its third game of the season.
