The Pascack Valley Girls Basketball team picked up a win over Bergenfield to open up league play. Celina Bussanich (Jr.) had 17 points, Raina Gibbs (Fr.) had 14 points, and Ava Burke (Jr.) had 12 points to lead the way for the Panthers.
Boys Basketball @ Bergenfield | 46-41 LOSS
The boys basketball team fell to Bergenfield by a score of 46-41. Trevor Kirkby (Jr.) had 10 points and Devin Merker (Jr.) had 9 points in the loss.
Wednesday, Jan. 3
Boys Bowling vs. Demarest | 4-3 WIN
Boys Bowling knocked off previously undefeated Demarest – knocking down a total of 2,213 pins in the 4-3 victory. Lucas Mercado (Fr.) led the way for Valley with scores of 205, 236, and 232.
Girls Bowling vs. Demarest | 7-0 LOSS
Girls Bowling suffered its first loss of the season by a score of 7-0. Valley knocked down 1,570 pins in the match and Sophia Bovino (Sr.) had the highest total with 489 pins.
Boys Wrestling vs Demarest | 38-30 WIN
The Panthers knocked off previously undefeated Demarest by a score of 38-30. It was a back-and-forth contest for the first seven matches but Valley won the last five bouts to seal the match. Delvin Oxmann (So.) pinned his opponent to clinch the win for Valley, with under 20 seconds left in his match, while Julian Morris (Sr.) had an overtime victory. George Hamilton (Jr.), Alex Bainbridge (So.), and Luke Stempkowski (Fr.) all had pins in their matches as well.
Thursday, Jan. 4
Boys Basketball vs. Teaneck | 62-58 LOSS
Valley fell to 2-7 on the season after suffering a 62-58 loss at home. Devin Merker (Jr.) had 18 points and Trevor Kirkby (Jr.) had a near triple-double with 8 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists in the loss.
Girls Basketball @ Teaneck | 71-37 LOSS
The Panthers fell to Teaneck, 71-37. Celina Bussanich (Jr.) finished with a season-high 26 points in the loss.
Girls Swimming @ Passaic Tech | 86-84 WIN
The girls swimming continued its undefeated start to the season with an 86-84 win. Rianna Kirkorian (Fr), Jessica Malocha (Sr.), and Amanda Bramley (So.) all came in first place in two different heats. Maizie Catanzaro (Fr.) finished in first place in one race as well. The girls take on Clifton in their next meet on 1/9.
Boys Swimming @ Passaic Tech | 110-59 LOSS
On the other end, the boys swimming team lost to Passaic Tech 110-59. Harry Fominykh (Sr.) was the lone first-place finish for the Panthers.
Ice Hockey @ Northern Highlands | 7-3 LOSS
The Pascack Hockey Team was defeated by a score of 7-3 against No.10 ranked Northern Highlands. Austin Groves (So.) had 2 goals and 1 assist, Zachary Groves (Sr.) had 2 assists, and Jack Sheehan (So.) had 1 goal and 1 assist in the game. Yulianna Krol (Jr.) recorded 26 saves in the matchup.
Friday, Jan. 5
Boys Bowling vs. Westwood | 5-2 WIN
Boys Bowling improved its winning streak to 4 games with a win over Westwood by a score of 4-2. Valley knocked down a total of 2,273 pins in the match. Joe Devanna (Sr.) led the way for the Panthers tallying a total of 666 pins across the three games. The next bowling match for the boys will be against Bergen Tech on 1/9.
Saturday, Jan. 6
Girls Basketball vs. Ridgewood | WIN 56-45
The Panthers improved to 4-4 on the season with a win over Ridgewood. Raina Gibbs (Fr.) led the team in scoring with 18 points. Celina Bussanich (Jr.) and Ava Burke (Jr.) both had 12 points in the game. Valley’s next game will be on Thursday at 4:15 p.m. against Demarest.
Boys Wrestling @ Hawthorne | 52-27 WIN
Valley defeated Hawthorne in the first of its two victories on the weekend. John Allmers (Sr.), Luke Stempkowski (Fr.), Antonio Cedeno (Sr.), George Hamilton (Jr.), Julian Morris (Sr.), Alex Bainbridge (So.), and Ennis Feratovic (Sr.) all picked up pins in their matches.
Boys Wrestling @ Wayne Hills | 38-35 WIN
The Panthers overcame Wayne Hills to pick up their second win of the day by a score of 38-35. John Allmers (Sr.), Luke Stempkowski (Fr.), George Hamilton (Jr.), and Ennis Feratovic (Sr.) picked up a pin in their matches to give Valley the win.
Sunday, Jan. 7
Ice Hockey vs Paramus | 7-0 WIN
Pascack Hockey picked up its third shutout of the season with a 7-0 win over Paramus. Jack Sheehan (So.) had a hat trick and 2 assists, Austin Groves had 1 goal and 3 assists, while Zachary Groves (Sr.) had 3 assists. Owen Dargan (So.), Jake Kovach (Jr.), and Joe Maire (Fr.) each netted a goal for Valley as well. Goalie Brendan O’Callaghan (Jr.) had 8 saves in the win.
