Monday, Feb. 7

Wrestling at Old Tappan | Valley 26 – Old Tappan 43 | NJSIAA Team Tournament, Quarterfinals, North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3

The loss in the first round of the state tournament marked the end of their run in the tournament. The duel saw Sr. Joe Lamparillo (pin), Sr. Drew Petaccia (pin), Sr. Justin Amato (decision), Sr. Noah Martin (technical fall), and So. Antonio Cedeno (pin) won their respective matches for Valley, but this wasn’t enough to push them over the edge. Valley moved to 13-5 with this loss.

Tuesday, Feb. 8

Girls Swimming vs. River Dell | Valley 79 – River Dell 91 |  NJSIAA Team Tournament, First Round, North Jersey, Section 1, Group A

On Jan. 21, Valley took their first win of the season against River Dell. From there, they’ve won three straight, but they weren’t able to keep the momentum rolling into the first round of the state tournament as they fell to River Dell 79-91.

Girls Basketball vs. Old Tappan | Valley 40 – Old Tappan 43

Girls Basketball lost to Old Tappan in a competitive game that came down to a buzzer-beater from Jr. Melissa Brennan. Jr. Lindsay Jennings led Valley in scoring with 13 points.

Boys Basketball at Old Tappan | Valley 81 – Old Tappan 73

Boys Basketball beat rival Old Tappan in a high-scoring game. The win snapped a 2-game losing streak for Valley and provided them with some good power points for their push for the upcoming state tournament.

Hockey vs. Watchung Hills | Valley 5 – Watchung Hills 0

Before Tuesday’s game, Valley’s last game had been on Jan. 22 at Montville, but when they returned to the ice they showed no signs of rust. Fr. Tyler Rothstein scored 2 goals while Jr. Goalie Aidan Rybacki had 36 saves in a shutout effort. The victory moved their win streak to six straight.

Wednesday, Feb. 9

Thursday, Feb. 10

Girls Bowling at Westwood | Valley 0 – Westwood 7

Girls Bowling lost 7-0 on Thursday to move to 2-4 on the season.

Boys Bowling at Westwood | Valley 3 – Westwood 4

Boys Bowling’s match was a little bit more competitive than the girls’, but they still weren’t able to pull out the result they were looking for as they fell 4-3. The loss puts Valley at 1-5 on the season.

Girls Basketball vs. Tenafly | Valley 61 – Tenafly 42

Valley was able to bounce back after losing a heartbreaker on Tuesday against Old Tappan. A good chunk of Valley’s offensive production came from UMass Boston commit and NJ.com top girls basketball senior in New Jersey, Jules Vasallo, who had 15 points. Jr. Tori Criscuolo also had 18 points, while Jr. Lindsay Jennings put up 14. It’s also worth noting that Jr. Rylie Theurerkauf put up 30 points for Tenafly. The win moves Valley’s record to 10-9 on the season. They look to keep things flowing in their next game on Tuesday, Feb 15. at Bergenfield, who Valley beat 64-25 in their last meeting this season.

Boys Basketball at Tenafly | Valley 43 – Tenafly 44

The boys lost a very competitive game to their league rivals, Tenafly, on Thursday afternoon. They look to bounce back on Tuesday, Feb. 15 vs. Bergenfield who Valley defeated by a score of 59-37 in their last meeting during this season. This game will be Valley’s senior night.

Hockey vs. Fair Lawn | Valley 6 – Tenafly 5 | Big North Silver Cup, First Round

Hockey defeated Fair Lawn in the first round of the Big North Silver Cup by a score of 6-5. The two teams struggled to get anything going offensively in the first period, but as the game went on, it seemed that the teams got more and more comfortable from an offensive standpoint. The first goal of the game was scored by Valley Sr. Camilo Ramirez but was followed up by 3 consecutive goals from Fair Lawn. Going into the last period, Valley was trailing by a score of 3-1, but 3 goals from Sr. Max Richards, a goal from So. Daniel Epstein, and a goal from Fr. Erik Wynn was enough to give Valley the edge. The victory moved their record to 11-4-1. They will face Ramsey in the semifinals of the tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

Boys Bowling

Boys Bowling came in first place in the Group 3 tournament and are state sectional champions. With this win, they have earned a spot in the state tournament.
