Head coach: Jeff Jasper (43rd Year)
Last year’s record: 16-12
Key returnees: Kelly Petro (So.), Kelly Smith (So.) , Shannon Culloo (Jr.), Gina Criscuolo (Sr.), Torianna Tabasco (So.), Cerina Dunkel (So.), Brianna Wong (So.), Danielle Miller (Jr.), Sophia Johnston (Jr.), Rita Kochakian (Jr.), Ashley Lagrosa (Sr.)
Key losses: Else DiGiacopo
Strengths of team: The team’s strength lies in its youthfulness. The ability to be quick up and down the court is something that will be key in dominating the tough schedule the Indians have. Junior Shannon Culloo has been an asset to the team and has a great understanding and knowledge for the game.
Areas that need improvement: With the team’s youthfulness also comes inexperience. The eight or nine sophomores on the team are looking to fill the holes left on the court by DiGiacopo who was lost to graduation. So far, seniors Gina Criscuolo, Ashley Lagrosa and Jenn Tran have stepped into her shoes nicely.
Outlook: This season, the team will have to overcome its youth and tough opening schedule. With a strong sophomore class gaining experience, the future looks very bright for the team. The team looks to maintain its record above .500 and go very far in both the state and county tournaments. However, the team may be without sophomore starter Kelly Smith to begin the season, who is out with a recurring shoulder injury.
Coach’s comment: “We have a very difficult early season schedule, will find out a lot about ourselves early on. We open with Old Tappan and then jump to the Poli Tournament. I am looking forward truly to playing in meaningful, relevant games. You can only do that if your team is good.”
Claudia Ralph graduated in 2016.
