Winter track seeks to build off of veterans’ experience and newcomers’ talent
Head Coach: Anthony Judilla
Girls Weakness: “Depth. We have an athlete or two in key spots, but, god forbid anyone gets hurt or we want to score at a big meet, we need throws, jumps, distance, [and] sprints. We need everything, and [we need it] right now,” Judilla said. “We only have a couple key spots, so I’m looking for depth in the underclassman.”
Boys Weakness: The boys found success in the Cross Country season, but that is only distance, so they have to spread out their success to other events in the winter.
Strength: “Our biggest strength in terms of our season and how it is structured is that we don’t have a lot of new people that do winter track. It’s a lot of the veterans (a lot of the people that want to compete), but we do have athletes who are just getting ready for their spring sport[s],” Judilla said.
“A vast majority of them [the veterans] are spring, fall, and winter competitors that don’t need to get out of that activation barrier of necessary warming up and figuring out how to compete,” Judilla said. “A lot of these guys and girls are ready to hit the ground running on our first meet of the season, and they are gonna use that as benchmarks to get better at the end of the season”
Outlook on the season: The Winter Track Team would like to make the season as long as possible, whether it makes the Groups, County Finals, or even Nationals. Coach Judilla emphasizes that the team needs to improve throughout the season in order to reach the goals it has set out for itself.
“Wherever we are, we want to make sure we get better, so we are able to compete later on in the [postseason],” Judilla said.
