This week’s athlete of the week, January 9-13, Cassidy Freeman.

Name: Cassidy Freeman

Sport: Swimming

Grade: Senior

The Lowdown: Last year Freeman was First-Team All County for the all around position. She placed 2nd in the 100 fly, and 3rd in the 200 IM. She has gone to states every year since she was a sophomore and made the finals in all the events she swam in. Cassidy owns 9 out of 11 school records. She has the school records in the 2 medley relay, 2 free relay, 4 free relay, 2 free, 2 IM, 1 fly, 50 free, 100 free, and hopefully will soon have the 100 back record. Freeman has been a main reason for the team having its most successful run in the history of PV Swimming.

Coach’s Comment: “Cassie is a special swimmer that you don’t see very often in high school swimming. It’s great to know that we can put her in anything and she will be successful no matter what. And on top of that she is a great leader for her team. You know, she is very dedicated to the sport and she is a pleasure to coach.” – Courtney Farrell

What She Likes Most About His/Her Sport: “I love how we are like a family. Everyone that comes in as a freshman is immediately welcomed and I love how everyone can just be themselves. And everyone is so close.”

Best Sport Memory: “Probably last year when my relay team made states and then at states we did even better and we made the finals, because everyone was working together instead of one person doing it themselves.”

Favorite Teacher: Reese and Jasper

Favorite Food: Pasta

Four people she’d like to meet: Katie Ledecky, Maya DiRado, Nathan Adrian, and Anthony Ervin (All U.S. Olympians in swimming)

Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: Chocolate

One Superpower: To fly

What’s the last thing you watched on Netflix: “Lost.”

Any Swimming Role Models: “I don’t know if I necessarily look up to 1 swimmer. I more look up to seniors that have graduated in the past on my club team and on the high school team because I know them and I know their work ethic.”

What Club Team Do You Swim For: Condors Swim Club

Future Plans: Cassidy will be attending Boston University and will swim for the Terriers. She is very happy with her college decision and hopes that the 4 years swimming at Boston will prepare her to participate in the Olympic Trials.
