October athletes of the month

As fall sports begin to rattle down, several players stood out in the season.

For the month of October, our female winner for athlete of the month is Jr. Alexis Ban. Ban plays girls tennis and is the No. 1 singles player on her team. Coach Daniel Phillips has high praise for her due to her work ethic as well as her drive to win every point despite hard opponents.

“[Alexis] is being put against the best players in our county and division,” Coach Daniel Phillips said. “Every single match we know she is going to give absolutely everything. ”

Next, we have our male winner for athlete of the month, Ethan Silcher. Silcher is the starting varsity quarterback and safety for Pascack Valley. He has worked hard to get to where he is now as he tore his ACL last year and wasn’t sure if he was going to be able to play again. Coach Len Cusumano loves all the effort he puts in on and off the field as well as his competitive nature.

“I think [Silcher] has improved every single year, both on and off the field and he has improved as a leader,” Coach Len Cusumano said. “There are not many guys that are able to go both ways, but he has been a leader at both positions and he is really valuable.”
