Boys soccer gets it going early and often

It was a hot September afternoon on Saturday for a boys’ soccer game and the high temperature might have led to the hot play for Pascack Valley boys’ soccer team, netting four goals in the first half en route to a 5-1 trashing of Demarest at Pascack Valley High School.

“We knew that it was going to be a tough game (with the high temperature),” said senior Kyle McManus. “We knew it was a must win.”

It started early for the Indians as junior Michael Lin booted one into the back of the net just four minutes into the game.

“I went to the open lane and Kyle got the ball on the wing and we finished,” said Lin.

“We played our style,” head coach Roy Nygren said. “The first goal had a fourteen pass sequence, which was nicely done.”

The Indians did not stop there, 15 minutes later, McManus found sophomore Alex Lin, who scored.

“They’re big kids, you gotta get it to them,” McManus said.

In the last two games, McManus has assisted to the Lin brothers four times.

The Lin brothers accounted for three of the five Indian goals proving to a formidable 1-2 punch in the attacking half of the field.

The other two came from junior Ryan Miller, one with 23 minutes left in the first half assisted by junior Jon Dinnell, the other 7 minutes into the second half, which was un assisted.

Sophomore goalie Josh Ulin protected the net for the Indians nicely, stopping all four shots on goal that Demarest took.

The Indians look to keep the good vibes going as they play their third game in five days on Monday against Teaneck.

What the objective is for the rest of the season, Michael Lin simply put it:

“Win.”
