Execution.

There is no one key to execution but in a game which Pascack Valley coach Craig Nielsen deemed a “team effort” and saw “everyone contribute.”

After starter Jorge Cortes went out with an ankle injury, PV showed its team effort and depth at the running back position in overwhelming Passaic Valley 49-6 Friday at Pascack Valley High School.

Junior Andrew Flores had twelve carries for 75 yards and one touchdown, while sophomores Josh Tillis (four carries for 36 yards and one TD) and Matt Urrea (seven carries for 60 yards and one TD) also aided the effort for Pascack Valley, which improved to 6-1 on the year.

Cortes will be ready for next week.

“Jorge is fine,” Nielsen said.

The play of the game was Jack Madden’s 65-yard punt return touchdown just 2:30 into the game to put PV up 7-0, and it was smooth sailing from there.

Whenever quarterback Colin Dedrick threw the ball, it appeared to be to some part of the Collier-Madden tandem. Madden finished with 69 receiving yards and Collier finished with one 12-yard TD reception  as well a successful 2-pt conversion after Josh Belmonte’s third quarter TD.

Dedrick, along with his running backs, were able to make big plays with another great game from the offensive line. The offensive line has proven time and time again that they are one of the best in North Jersey. On a long drive in the 3rd quarter, the Indians ran the ball all but one time in 12 plays. After having a 1st-and-25 due to penalties the Indians were able to run the ball successfully and eventually convert on a fourth down. Belmonte scored his TD to cap off the drive.

Much like the Bergenfield game, the Indians showed they have a bright future not only at the running back position, but at all positions, including a very strong defensive front.

This win positions PV another step closer to being the No. 1 seed in the state playoffs. The Indians travel to Wyckoff to face Ramapo next week, a quality team that should pose a greater threat than Passaic Valley, which fell to 4-3 on the year.
