Internship Spotlight: Brooke Matar
Brooke Matar interns at Muah Makeup and Lash Bar.
In an environment where everything is pink, PV Senior Brooke Matar, interns at Muah Makeup and Lash Bar in Westwood, New Jersey. Every Tuesday to Friday, from 12:15 to 2:50 p.m., Matar spends her time doing makeup trainings and co-running the boutique’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

“In the beginning, it was a little awkward because I was working with older women; I was intimidated. Now, they’re like my older sisters and we became such good friends!” Matar said.
Working at Muah Makeup and Lash Bar is simply a favorable experience for Brooke.
“On Fridays when I don’t have to babysit after school, I’ll stay until closing, not because I have to, just to hang out,” Matar said.
Despite her internship of choice, makeup is more of a hobby for Matar, rather than a future career.
“Makeup is really just a hobby for me,” Matar said. “It’s something I probably could turn into career, but I don’t know if I want to yet. It’s for fun.”
Matar thinks she may major in communications, and working at Muah Makeup and Lash Bar allows her to learn how to maintain a business and communicate with different people on an everyday basis.
“I learned how to talk to people I don’t know, answer a phone, and make business calls,” Matar said.
Internship, as a whole, has been a positive experience for her.
“I know a lot of kids think you get your afternoon off, which is true, but if you pick an internship that you are interested in, it’s so awesome,” said Matar. “I’ve learned so much (more) at my internship than I could have in a classroom.”
In Matar’s eyes, the internship program is a great experience and something to write on a college resume.
“I wrote about internships so much because I love it so much! It helped me in a lot of areas in my life,” she said.

This should all be sent to Mrs. Laura Grier. She will meet with you individually to determine your career goals post high school. Mrs. Grier then will go through her sites and match you with the one that you feel best fits your future goals etc. Next, an interview with the site mentor is scheduled. Finally, once that is done, you are ready to start interning September of your senior year.)
