Pascack gymnastics shines at leagues, counties

It has been the season that no one expected from the Pascack Regional gymnastics team, a season full of new records, young talent and high expectations.

Monday took the team to West Milford for the New Jersey Gymnastics League (NJGL) B League meet. Pascack was put into the B league this year after last season, but the team has proved that the B League is most definitely the wrong place for the team.

“We had a lot of personal bests and came together as a team. It was one of our best meets of the season,” said senior Jillian Dean.

Dean won bars at the league meet with a 9.35 and Freshman Melissa Ricciardi won beam with a 9.575. Dean (34.975) also placed 3rd in the all-around and Ricciardi (36.375) placed 2nd.

“We all came together as a team to reach our goals: to do our best and win the meet,” Dean continued.

The team came in first with its highest score of the whole season, 107.275. Increases in difficulty and sticking routines helped the team to lift them over league rival Wayne Valley (105.275).

The county meet last Friday was also another shining moment for the team. Placing third with a team total of 106.65, usually that score would be enough to win. But with the talent of the county and powerhouses in Ramapo (113.175) and Ridgewood (111.375), the team’s third place win only beat Holy Angels (106.175) by a small margin.

Going into sectionals, two great performances from the team sets the girls up to be confident and peaking at the right time to put forth their best efforts. The girls are in it to win it. And they are ready to show the NJGL that their talents deserve to be in the A League.
