Nearly eight weeks after Craig Nielsen announced his retirement, a new football coach has been named: Len Cusumano, confirmed PV principal Tom DeMaio.

The announcement is expected to be made at a player meeting Monday after school, and the decision is pending board approval on Monday May 16.

“Despite having three very strong external candidates, the committee ultimately made the very difficult decision of choosing to go with Len Cusumano as the next head coach,” DeMaio said.

Cusumano, who joined the PV coaching staff in 2008, served most recently as offensive coordinator for the Indians. He was an integral member of the coaching staff for Pascack Valley’s two state sectional title wins in 2013 and 2014.

After attending Passaic Valley High School, where he was an all-county tight end, Cusumano attended Syracuse University where he played tight end and fullback.

He inherits a team that won two consecutive state titles in 2013 and 2014, after not winning any since 1990, and a team that has made the playoffs every year since 2004.
