Poke Zone: Tuna, Boba, and Dumplings
It’s a restaurant where you sit yourself and the menus are made of thin paper like the takeout menus that American families keep in their takeout menu drawer.
Poke Zone in Ridgewood, New Jersey is a small, casual spot to grab a bite.
The waiters aren’t particularly unfriendly or friendly, it is a rather bland restaurant service.
A big portion of their orders come from takeout, but there are plenty of tables for those who choose to eat-in.
The menu range is vast, including the drink sections.
I ordered the Mango Fresh Fruit Tea with boba, but let me say this did not taste like mango.
The taste was equivalent to drinking soap; I do not recommend it.
In addition to the drink I ordered tuna dumplings; they were shaped like crab rangoon. On the inside was cooked tuna and on the outside was raw tuna. This texture of cooked and uncooked fish did not mix well.
Although it didn’t taste good, the presentation of this dish was immaculate.
It was plated on top of a slice of avocado and poke sauce.
Now to the important part, the poke bowls.
I ordered a make your own poke bowl with tuna, cucumber, mango, edamame, and crispy wontons.
The Poke Bowl was the highlight of my meal because of the tuna- the amount of the tuna in the poke bowl was perfect.
Other restaurants put a few pieces of tuna in the poke bowl and call it a day, but at the Poke Zone every bite I took had a piece of tuna.
The fish was very fresh and not fishy.
The vegetables and fruit were also very fresh and delicious. To add to the bowl I got the Poke Sauce.
Poke sauces vary from restaurant to restaurant, but I will say, the poke bowl is all you really need. It is quite filling.
Overall, I would give Poke Zone a 3.5/5 stars because the service was rather bland, but the poke bowls were mouth watering.
