PV baseball wins league championship

Led by Ron Villone’s walk off single in the 7th inning on Monday, the PV baseball team clinched the league championship with a 3-2 win over Teaneck.

The Indians’ division consists of Old Tappan, Demarest, Bergenfield, Tenafly, and Teaneck and their season sweep of Teaneck clinched the title

“I’m just happy to win with a great group of guys,” Villone said.

The 2-run bottom of the seventh was started with a double by Carson Weis, who advanced to third on wild pitch.

Pinch hitter junior Jon Piccinich drove Weis in with a single to get the tying run in and tie the game. Piccinich also scored the winning run for the Indians.

“It was a great win for the team. It goes to show how when we may be down, we are never out until its over,” Piccinich said.

Senior Dan Corvo pitched for the Indians and struck out 6 batters in seven innings and was the winning pitcher for the Indians.

The Indians now look forward to continuing their road to the state playoffs. The Indians appearance in the Bergen County Tournament was brief as they lost to Wood-Ridge, 5-3.
