Season Recap: Dean’s last year proves to be most important

It was the season Pascack Regional Gymnastics never imagined. In the beginning the team was unranked, unnoticed by local media outlets, not seen as a threat to county powers such as Ridgewood or Ramapo.

Senior Jillian Dean and Freshman Melissa Ricciardi though, changed the face of Pascack gymnastics this year, bringing the team into the spotlight and earning themselves places on the All-County team.

Dean won bars at the State Sectional meet and Ricciardi took third on beam. In the all-around Ricciardi took third and Dean took fourth, solidifying their success this season.

Dean and Ricciardi also led the team to a league title and third place at the County meet and the State Sectional. The team’s highlight came when it beat sectional powers Wayne Valley and Holy Angels in crucial meets during the year. The team also took down Wayne Hills at the county and sectional meets.

Senior Alex Borrelli also competed beam in many dual meets for the team. Freshman Marissa McGrane contributed all-around for the team and junior Hannah Shell also competed beam.

Coach Tara Rosenberg, a PV Alumni, also won “Coach of the Year.” Rosenberg was a member of the NJSIAA Sectional winning teams in 2008 and 2009. She was also selected as the top gymnast in the North 1 region in 2009.

With the loss of Dean and Borrelli next year, the team looks to Ricciardi and Hills junior LeAnne Drum to lead the team next year. The team looks to have talented underclassmen next year to fill the places of the graduating seniors.
