Coach Shawn Buchanan addresses his team during a practice. The swim & dive team looks to succeed with their young, energetic talent, while being complimented by strong leadership.

Head Coach: Shawn Buchanan (11th year in total)

Last year’s record:

Girls: 5-4

Boys: 5-5

Key Returners: Jessica Malocha (Sr.), Nicole Choi (Sr.), Brian Yang (Sr.)

Key Losses: Zach Berde, Veronica Fyfe, Caitlyn DeGise

Strength of team: “We have a lot of strong leadership with a young, energetic team that is excited for the season,” Buchanan said.

Weakness of team: Buchanan thinks the inexperience of the group will harm them at first, yet once they get used to the environment of high school swimming, he anticipates success.

Outlook on the season: “We built [a] program that is extremely respected and looked at as a benchmark on how to run a program,” Buchanan said. “Keeping those traditions alive and looking towards league championships, qualifying for states, [and] working towards a state title are our annual goals.”

Coach’s Comment: “We have a very large freshman and sophomore [class] and there [are] a lot of talented swimmers, so we are excited to see what they can bring to the team,” Buchanan said.
