Swimmer Cori Freeman commits to University of Vermont

Cori Freeman isn’t shy of the spotlights as she is going to a Division I college, University of Vermont. It seems like a family trend of going to top-tier colleges to swim and continue their academic careers as her older sister swims at Boston University.

Her relationship with Coach Courtney Rems started at a young age due to her older sisters being on the team before her.

“My relationship with Cori began before she even got to high school [because] she has two older sisters who were on the team,” Rems said. “She was always there to support her sisters.”

Freeman has never had issues regarding change of the race she swam nor has leadership been a problem.

“I would say the greatest asset is her versatility,” Rems said. “She can handle any event pretty easily so she’s not a one-trick pony. She cheers her teammates [on] like her life depended on it. She is always standing right on the side of the pool, making sure everyone does their best.”

The relationship goes both ways as Freeman believes that her comfort level rose with her club coaches as she got more comfortable around Rems.

“Rems has definitely allowed me [to] be more open with my coaches,” Freeman said.

Freeman had many options when she made her final decision of where to go.

“I looked at maybe like 15 to 20 schools, but then it narrowed down to three,” Freeman said. ” It came down to what would be the best fit for me academically and athletically.”
