Girls basketball team hoping third time’s a charm

Indians look to take down Old Tappan in their third meeting of the season

Pascack Valley vs. Old Tappan

Where: PV

Date: Tuesday, February 2

Time: 4 p.m. Tipoff

PV Record: 13-3

PV Perspective: After turning its season around, it seems that the young Indians team led by senior center Gina Criscuolo has finally found its groove after taking down county-power Teaneck, 60-41 on January 12. But facing a familiar foe, Old Tappan, has proven troublesome for the Indians. The Golden Knights have delivered two of the Indians’ losses this season in very different fashions. On opening day the Indians lost 72-58 to Old Tappan, but in the second round of the Joe Poli Tournament, PV fell just short in a nail-biting 37-36 loss. A solid showing for the team could push them higher into the rankings and provide much needed confidence for the young team that includes sophomore starters Kelly Petro, Brianna Wong, Torianna Tabasco and Kelly Smith. After this game, the two teams have the potential to face each other once more in the Bergen County Tournament, where they are on the same side of the bracket.

OT Record: 13-3

Old Tappan Lowdown: The Golden Knights have one of everything that a successful basketball team needs. Even with the loss of senior Alexie Piccinich for the rest of the season due to knee injury, the team continues to be one of the best that Bergen County has to offer. Tampa-bound senior Emily Crevani is one of the best point guards in North Jersey. The team plays all around great defense, using a tightly guarded man-to-man system. The Golden Knights have the same finesse on the offensive side of the ball as well. Sophomore Alexandra George stands at a dominant 6-feet tall and is able to put up rebounds quickly, out of reach of smaller opponents. With a dominant senior class, the team plays with poise and cohesion even during high-stress situations.
