On Friday night, the Pascack Valley Football Team lost 31-6 to Northern Highlands, resulting in PV’s first loss of the season. This makes the team’s record 3-1.
The first score of the game came from Highlands, as QB Nate Johnson (Sr.) connected with WR Charles Goebbert (Sr.) for a 20-yard passing touchdown to give Highlands a 7-0 lead.
The lead remained in favor of Highlands at the end of the first quarter.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Valley got on the board with a three-yard rushing touchdown by QB Adam Shaw (Jr.). The extra point was not converted, so Valley still trailed 7-6.
During its next possession, Highlands drove down the field. This time, Johnson converted a 27-yard passing touchdown to WR/DB Shane Hanlon (Sr.), giving Highlands a 14-6 lead.
After Valley’s Shaw threw an interception, Highlands had a touchdown of its own. Goebbert had his second receiving touchdown of the game—this one going for 30 yards.
Highlands led 21-6 after the touchdown and extended its lead to 24-6 right before halftime when kicker Peter Vafiadis (Sr.) connected on a 45-yard field goal.
In the third quarter, Highlands’s RB Matthew Boydell (Sr.) had a three-yard rushing touchdown, extending the Highlanders’ lead to 25 points: 31-6.
Neither team scored for the rest of the third quarter or in the fourth quarter.
Shaw finished the game completing ten of his 22 passes with 87 passing yards. RB Kevin Regula (Sr.) finished with 44 rushing yards and 45 receiving yards.
Valley’s next game will be against Bergenfield Bears this Friday, Sept. 27, at 6:15 pm, at Pascack Valley High School.
