For many years, veterans have come to share their experiences in the military with the Pascack Valley students in their history classes. The ten veterans who joined us this year are members of the local American Legion Post 162, and have been coming to the school for five years.

The vets have to sign up to come to PV in order to speak, and each available class has the opportunity to hear the stories of at least one veteran, said history teacher Karen Kosch.

Gary Pinke, one of the veterans who spoke today, enlisted in the Navy in 1968 after high school because “at that time, everybody served.” During his four years of service, Pinke achieved the rank of Second Class Petty Officer.

Pinke said that during his service, he made some of the best memories of his life.

“My experiences took me from being a high school boy to a man,” Pinke said.
