2/20 Monday

Girls Basketball vs Tenafly / WIN 70-45

The Pascack Valley Girls Basketball, seeded No. 8, defeated No. 9 Tenafly by a score of 70-45 in the first round of the NJSIAA, North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 tournament. After being down 28-27 at halftime, Valley outscored Tenafly 43-17 in the second half. Celina Bussanich finished with 24 points and 3 assists. Lindsay Jennings finished with 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Tori Criscuolo recorded a double-double, with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Ava Burke added 10 points. After this win, Valley advanced to the quarterfinal round of the state tournament, to take on No.1 seeded Montville.

Boys Basketball vs Paramus / WIN 72-59

In the first round of the NJSIAA, North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 tournament, No. 4 seeded Pascack Valley Boys Basketball defeated No. 13 Paramus, 72-59. Christian Vargas led Valley with 24 points, while going nine for ten from the free throw line. Jimmy Shea had 16 points, Trevor Kirkby had 15 points, Conor Higgins had 10 points, and Michael Criscuolo had 7 points. Valley advanced to the quarterfinal round, facing No. 5 Wayne Valley.

Boys Basketball vs Wayne Valley / WIN 53-45

The boys basketball team defeated Wayne Valley, 53-45, in the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA, North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 tournament. Jimmy Shea had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Conor Higgins had 15 points, with 9 points coming off three-pointers. Christian Vargas added 12 points as well. With this win, No. 4 Valley advanced to face No. 1 seeded Ramapo in the semifinal round.

Girls Basketball @ Montville / LOSS 42-29

The Pascack Valley Girls Basketball’s season came to an end on Wednesday, with a 42-29 loss to No. 1 Montville. Lindsay Jennings had 11 points, Madison McCarthy had 7 points, and Celina Bussanich had 5 points. Valley finished the season 19-9, 6-4 in the Big North – National Division. Lindsay Jennings finished the season with 376 points and Celina Bussanich finished with 372 points. 

Ice Hockey vs Manasquan / WIN 4-1

The No. 7 Pascack Hockey Team defeated No. 10 Manasquan, 4-1 in the first round of the NJSIAA, Public C Tournament. After being tied 1-1 at the end of the first period, Austin Groves and Erik Wrynn scored a goal each in the second period, and Zach Groves scored one in the third period. Aidan Rybacki finished with 39 saves. Pascack advances to the quarterfinal round, where the team will take on No. 2 West Essex on Monday, February 27th.

Boys Basketball @ Ramapo / LOSS 55-53

The Pascack Valley Boys Basketball Team lost a tightly contested match to No.1 Ramapo by a score of 55-53. Valley went neck and neck with the Raiders, ranked No.6 in the state by nj.com; Valley was only down by one point heading into halftime. Jimmy Shea finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds, and Christian Vargas finished with 14 points. Valley finished the season with a record of 20-9, 7-3 in the Big North – National Division. Christian Vargas and Jimmy Shea each finished with over 300 points on the season. 

Wrestling Region 1 Individual Tournament-Friday and Saturday

The Pascack Valley Wrestling Team sent four wrestlers to the Region 1 Tournament in West Milford. Valley’s 106-pounder Dylan Biegel lost in the first round of the Region tournament, and 132-pounder Antonio Cedeno also lost in the first round. 126-pounder Adan Cedeno was able to win his first match and advanced to the quarterfinals, where he fell by major decision. At Wrestlebacks on Saturday, Adan won his first match but lost his second, coming in sixth in the Region 1 Tournament. Ray Kohan won his match on Friday, advancing to the semifinals on Saturday. Kohan won his match by fall, advancing to the state tournament in Atlantic City for the second time in his career.
