Wetzel’s Pretzels: hot or knot?
Wetzel’s Pretzels is a popular pretzel chain with over 350 locations, typically found in big malls.
Sophomore and staff writer Toluwani Bosede and I (Megan Austin) checked out the Wetzel’s Pretzels in the Paramus Park Mall. Located on the first floor, this establishment has quick service. The food was ready within a minute of ordering.
To get a good idea of all of the options on the menu, we tried the classic Pretzel Bitz, dipping sauces, Cin-a-Bitz, Frozen Mango Boba with Lemonade, and the Strawberry Kiwi Granita.
For $6.39, theBitz with Butter came with a considerable amount of pretzels. These bites were chewy and had just enough salt. The Bitz with Butter bites were great for dipping in the cheddar cheese dipping sauce.
Cin-a-Bitz, sold for $6.92, are a classic staple of Wetzel’s Pretzels. With their soft dough and warmth, they make quite the snack. The serving is plentiful, so you’re never left hungry or unsatisfied, and the added cinnamon sugar really completes the experience. The sweetness is evenly distributed throughout the serving, and, if you feel like you’re missing something, there’s always some extra sugar at the bottom of the bag.
At Wetzel’s Pretzels, there are numerous options for dipping sauce: Cheddar Cheese, Jalapeno Cheddar Cheese, Pizza Sauce, and Caramel. Each dip costs $1.59.
Out of these options we chose the Cheddar Cheese dip and the Caramel dip. The Cheddar Cheese was quite standard, but it was a little too salty. The Caramel dip was a perfect addition to the Cin-a-Bitz. It was very thick and creamy but a bit messy. The biggest complaint about the sauces would be the price: for nearly two dollars, each package does not come with a lot of sauce.
You always need a refresher when eating pretzels, right? The Frozen Mango Boba with Lemonade was great to wash down the salt from the pretzels. You can get this drink for $5.89 with lots of boba and delicious lemonade.
The Strawberry Kiwi Granita is a great refresher, too. The flavors are very balanced, with neither taste of kiwi nor strawberry overpowering the drink. Its cold and slushy feel provides a nice texture while drinking, and brain freeze wasn’t much of a problem either. However, the drink began to melt quickly and turned into juice after a while.
Wetzel’s Pretzels deserves 8.5 stars out of 10 because the pretzels were exceptional and the drinks were flavorful, but the dipping sauces were slightly disappointing for the price.
