As the 2021 lacrosse season gets underway, Pascack Valley’s second-year coach Matthew Will has high expectations for the team. Will hopes the team can contend on more than one level, and is looking for his goals to become a reality.

“We want to compete for a league title, high seed in counties, and states. If we meet the potential that we have then we will be able to achieve those things.”

There is no shortage of star power for Valley in 2021, with Division I and Division III commits all over the field.

Offensively, PV can look to Hartford commit Joe Christiano to put some points on the board, with some support in the midfield from SUNY Cortland commit Daniel Haag and sophomore Nate Lewis. Valley’s defense is led by Wesleyan commit Jared Cohen and senior goalie Desmond Von Tobel who will look to shut down opposing offenses.

One of the team’s biggest advantages for this upcoming season is offense, showcasing all-around talent in practice, even with some players joining the team multiple weeks into practice as a result of being a part of the wrestling team.

“We have the potential to have a talented offense and I say that because we still have some pieces missing,” Will said. “A couple of our guys are still wrestling so we don’t have the entire team yet.”

Although PV has a talented offense, depth has begun to be an issue for the team in its limited playing time thus far, and Valley will need to overcome this if it hopes to reach the goals set by Will.

“[Our biggest issue is] Our depth right now,” Will said. “We don’t have everybody ready and so we are short-handed, even in our practices and scrimmages. We have players getting tired, we have players playing out of position.”

If Valley can capitalize on the production from its experienced seniors in the 2021 season, then the team will have the opportunity to reach its full potential.
