The Indians are on a hot streak and feeling good about themselves.

With the Indians’ 3-2 win against Old Tappan on Oct. 11, they surpassed the Golden Knights, and moved into first place in the Big North, National League. Old Tappan is currently in second place. It was an important win for the Indians, after their 2-1 loss against Glen Rock in the Bergen County Tournament.

“Coming off the loss in the County Tournament, which was our first loss for the year, Monday was a tough day for us,” said PV Coach Roy Nygren.

“We had to get over that, and it was going to be interesting if we got back up on the horse and attack the challenges. Old Tappan was a huge league game, one [power] point ahead on the table going into the game. We’ve established over the past five years just an incredible rivalry. It’s been really, really good. And on Wednesday, the boys really stepped up nicely. A hard fought, great match and we ended up coming out on top,” Nygren said.

At the end of the month, PV will begin play in the state sectional tournament. All teams have to qualify within their first 13 games of the regular season, and the Indians will play their 13th game on Thursday.

Nygren said, “The state tournament starts October 31st. This week is a big week for that. But also we have two league games [against Teaneck and Demarest]. We need to find a way to win three league games of our last four, and we will have our third straight league championship.”

Nygren explained that a lot was on the line for PV in its recent game against St. Joseph’s. With a record of 8-3, the Green Knights had won six games in a row. Nygren knew that their opponents were coming into this game on a high note. The Indians fell to the Green Knights by a score of 2-1.

“We got a Saint Joe’s team that felt pretty good about themselves, and we didn’t find the result we were looking for. But if all goes well and we can win these next two games this week, we will have accrued… in the neighborhood of 280 power points which would be good for a No. 2 seed in the state sectional tournament,” said Nygren.

The Indians last played against Teaneck on Tuesday night and came out on top 5-0. Robbie Callaghan, Matt Harris, T.J. Mastowski, Brayden Schwartz, and Andrew Tateossian each scored a goal.

Nygren gave credit to his players who have been getting it done on the field. He recognized seniors Tateossian, Harris, Mastowski, Justin Schaumberger, Kyle Ricco, Jahren James, and Josh Ulin for playing at a high level. Mastowski has six goals and seven assists, while Ulin has provided a steady presence in goal.

Pascack Valley has high aspirations for the rest of the season. The Indians know who they are, and now their job is to go out on the field and achieve their goals.
