Strengths of team: Coming off a phenomenal season, Valley will look to continue their run of success in 2017, even after losing multiple key starters. One strength of the team is using the whole field, meaning that every player will get to touch and handle the ball. The team is also much deeper than last year, which should be a strength for the Indians. With senior goalkeeper Josh Ulin coming off a season in which he had nine shutouts, the team will be strong coming out of the back. The players seem to have a winning attitude after a terrific season last year.

Areas that need improvement: The team lost some important players from last year, which means some younger players are going to have increased roles. With new players, comes a lack of experience, which may be a bit concerning early on, but will get better with time. With a group consisting of a lot of younger players, questions arise as to how they will size up physically against some of their bigger opponents. The biggest issue for the team may be that they are not as physically strong as last year.

Outlook: The Indians are a cohesive group with a lot of talented players that work well together, evidenced by their past success. PV will look to carry over the success they had from last year in which they lost only twice, with both defeats at the hands of Ramapo. PV was undefeated against all other opponents, but they suffered humbling losses in the finals of the county tournament, and then in the state sectional semi-finals. Although the team is a bit young, Coach Roy Nygren believes his players all have a winning attitude that will be beneficial as they chase another strong season.

Coach’s comment: Nygren likes the way his team is playing, especially with their pace, but knows his players will have to continue to work hard to get better. He expressed confidence in his team and believes that each day his players are getting to know each other better, which will reflect in their games.
