Steven Demboski is going to the University of Delaware to play Division I Football. “Delaware is getting a great young man, and I think it’s a really good fit for him,” Coach Len Cusumano said. “They have a good solid program that he’s going to take advantage of. We’re just proud of him to see where he’s at right now, and then taking his skills to the next level, is even bigger.”

Pascack Valley Senior Steven Demboski is going to continue his career at the collegiate level, playing Division I football for the University of Delaware.

“I got into football when I was in kindergarten,” Demboski said. “I fell in love with everything about it. Both of my brothers played football, so I had a little bit of influence [from] them.”

Demboski said that he has a lot to be thankful for when it comes to the people in his life who have supported him throughout the years.

“I’m really lucky to have great parents,” Demboski said. “I have my brothers, my friends, [my phenomenal] coaches, [and] my teachers. They’ve helped me along with everything.”

Coach Len Cusumano had nothing but positive things to say about Demboski being the captain of PV’s football team this season.

“He does everything you ask, both on and off the field,” Cusumano said. “We never have to worry about him doing wrong… he always leads by example and teaches and coaches the younger guys.”

Demboski said that he really didn’t really know what to expect going into this past summer. Originally, he was supposed to go to football camps, however, he was unable to do so because of the pandemic.

Demboski said that playing football in a Division I program means a lot to him. He was grateful he got the opportunity given the fact that coaches were unable to physically make visits last season.

“The biggest [difference] with the [recruiting] process was that coaches weren’t able to come to the school [and watch me play],” Demboski said. “I met a lot of these coaches for the first time two or three months ago, [so] to build that relationship is something special.”

When talking about Demboski’s commitment to Delaware, Cusumano was very supportive and aware of the dedication and hard work he has put in.

“Delaware is getting a great young man, and I think it’s a really good fit for him,” Cusumano said. “They have a good solid program that he’s going to take advantage of. We’re just proud of him to see where he’s at right now, and then taking his skills to the next level, is even bigger.”

Demoboski said that as he makes his transition from high school to college, he is leaving behind a “pivotal chapter” in his life and his football career.

Demboski said that over the years, he has made many great memories that he will remember forever.

“My most memorable moment right now would be beating River Dell in my sophomore year,” Demboski said.  “It just meant a lot… I remember being with all those seniors. They were so excited to win and it was a great experience to have.”

During his time at PV, Demboski has built relationships, bonds, and brotherhoods that are special to him and helped him succeed and reach his goals. He said that he is grateful for all the support he has gotten from his “brothers” on the team.

Demboski said that there are many other things that go into being a Division I athlete besides physical abilities.

“I think [having a] hard-work ethic is probably the [most important aspect] compared to how well you can execute it,” Demboski said. “You have to execute well, but if you have a hard-work ethic I believe you can get things done.”
