Social Media Editor, Megan Austin review Downtown Dhaba in Westwood.

Downtown Dhaba, located in the center of Westwood, has a vast selection of Indian foods and is perfect for sharing meals with friends and family.

For three people, we ordered two main dishes and an appetizer all to share. This was quite sufficient, with plenty of leftovers.

Now, let’s get to the important part, the food.

To start the meal, the server brought out a dish of papadums. Papadums are a type of flatbread in India. These weren’t very tasty; I would compare them to the flavor of Matza.

As an appetizer, we ordered fried okra. It was called Kurkuri Bhindi on their menu. For those unfamiliar with the vegetable okra as I was before I visited Downtown Dhaba, okra is a vegetable that originated in Ethiopia in the 12th century. Centuries later okra became popular in India.

While a fried vegetable may not seem very intriguing, Kurkuri Bhindi was delicious. By frying the okra, an additional level of crunch was added which I enjoyed greatly.

Next, we ordered Butter Chicken. This chicken was in fact not lathered in butter, but covered in a red sauce filled with palatable spices. From the point of view of a picky eater, this chicken was wonderful. The chicken came with a side of rice which mixed well.

To go along with the Butter Chicken we ordered Garlic Naan. The rice and chicken could be added to the naan which made a great sandwich altogether.

The ambiance of the restaurant was ordinary with low light and few people on a Monday.

Overall, I would rate Downtown Dhaba a 9/10. The food was delicious and I would certainly like to go back soon.
