FDU set for NCAA Tournament

Hillsdale resident leads Knights into the First Four

On Sunday afternoon, Fairleigh Dickinson University allowed fans and media members to join the mens basketball team on campus to celebrate the team’s accomplishment of returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016. FDU was awarded an automatic bid in the tournament after winning the Northeast Conference Tournament.

The festivities lasted from 4 p.m. to around 7 p.m. First, the team held an open practice session at the home of the Knights, the Rothman Center. Following practice, the team and its guests walked to the nearby Wilson Auditorium to watch the NCAA Tournament selection show, where FDU’s seed and first round matchup would be announced. After the selection show, players and coaches were interviewed by the various media members in attendance, including The Smoke Signal.

The Knights, led by coach and Hillsdale resident Greg Herenda, were seeded No. 16 in the West Region, and will play Tuesday night against Prairie View A&M in the First Four in Dayton, Ohio. If FDU wins that opening game, they would travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to face top seeded Gonzaga in the round of 64.
